Support, Onboarding & Retention
Keep customers successful after the sale so churn does not kill your business.
Onboarding checklist
Define a concrete onboarding path with three milestones: integration connected, first successful task completed, and first weekly email received. Customers who hit 'first win' within 7 days retain 3x better than those who do not.
Build an onboarding checklist into your product UI - not a PDF guide, an interactive checklist with progress tracking. 'Step 1: Connect your Zendesk account ✓. Step 2: Run your first task ✓. Step 3: Review your weekly report - in progress.' Visible progress motivates completion.
Assign a human touchpoint for the first 30 days: a 15-minute onboarding call at signup, a check-in email at day 7, and a review call at day 30. For a $500/month product, 45 minutes of founder time per customer is the highest-ROI activity you can do.
Proactive monitoring
Do not wait for customers to complain. Monitor agent performance metrics per customer and alert when something degrades: resolution rate drops 10+ points, error rate spikes, usage drops 50% week-over-week, or no tasks run for 3+ days.
Reach out proactively: 'I noticed your agent's resolution rate dropped from 82% to 71% this week. I looked at the traces and found 8 failures related to a new ticket category. Here is a fix - can we hop on a 15-minute call?' This turns a potential churn into a loyalty moment.
Build a customer health score combining: usage frequency, task success rate, feature adoption, support ticket volume, and NPS. Customers with declining health scores get proactive outreach before they cancel.
