Getting Your First 10 Paying Customers

Outbound, communities, partnerships, and demos that convert for agent products.

Design partners

Your first 10 customers are design partners, not scale customers. Target companies already spending money on the problem you solve - paying for Zendesk, hiring VAs, retaining agencies, or employing full-time staff for the manual workflow.

The pitch: 'You are spending $X/month on [current solution]. My agent does [specific workflow] for $Y/month with [specific ROI]. Can I run a 30-day paid pilot?' You are not asking them to try something new - you are asking them to replace a line item they already budget for.

Find design partners through your network first: former colleagues, industry contacts, LinkedIn connections in your target vertical. Warm outreach converts 10-20x better than cold. Ten design partners who love your product and introduce you to three peers is worth more than 100 cold emails.

Demo the outcome

Live demos on the prospect's actual data beat slides, videos, and sandbox demos every time. The script: 'Give me 3 real examples of [the task]. I will run them through my agent right now. You tell me if the output is usable.'

This demo takes 5-10 minutes and produces an immediate yes/no reaction. Slides produce 'send me more info.' Live demos produce 'when can we start?' Record successful demos (with permission) and reuse them for similar prospects - a demo resolving real dental billing tickets sells to every dental billing prospect.

Prepare for demo failures gracefully. If the agent fails on a live example, say: 'This is exactly the edge case we are improving. Here is how the agent handled these other 9 examples correctly.' Honesty about limitations builds more trust than a polished demo that hides failures.
